THE REGULAR MEETING was called to order by Karen Peters at 6:35pm.
The Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the July 1, 2020, meeting were previously sent with the agenda.
Susan moved to accept the report. Linda seconded. The motion passed. Minutes of the August 5, 2020, meeting was previously sent with the agenda. Linda moved to accept the report. Susan
seconded. The motion passed.
The Treasurer’s Report: Susan Albert shared the August treasurer’s report on screen and indicated that
we had received a $250.00 grant from the Ironman Foundation, based on previous volunteer work
for the event.
The July treasurer’s report was in the August minutes. Jess Moved to accept the report as printed. Linda seconded. The motion passed.
COMMUNICATIONS: Karen read a letter from the Ironman Foundation, cancelling the event, and proffering a donation for past volunteer work. The $250.00 donation was gratefully accepted.
Karen wrote a letter to Patrick McIntyre thanking him for 17 years of service to the WHS as webmaster, since he will be retiring from that position. Karen sent a condolence letter to Jan Ward upon the death of her husband Sid Ward who was a supporter of the WHS and other community organizations. Karen represented the WHS at the memorial service for Erma Haselton, a longtime member and supporter of our organization.
STANDING COMMITTEES:
ACQUISITIONS AND RESEARCH:
There have been requests of genealogical information about the Lawrence, Haselton, Norris,
Hewitt and Taylor Families this month.
Merri and/or Susan will order a new backup drive this week which will be able to hold all our records far into the future.
PROGRAM COMMITTEE:
Karen is working on a Facebook update.
Karen reported an idea for “Mapping the Adirondacks” as a future program.
MEMBERSHIP AND NOMINATIONS
Nancy reported two new memberships. The membership total is now 111. Nancy will send
membership reminders this month.
FUNDRAISING:
Linda Joss-Dyke reported that there were 27 online ticket orders to date. Members of the board
have been asked to sell tickets as well. Roy Holzer will draw the winning ticket at the
community center on September 12 at 3pm. To date, we have collected $655. Karen will send
out more posts.
The town will have a concert/drive-in movie event on September 25. WHS will operate a concession stand at the program.
Dennis Keegan suggested the possibility of a Winter Athletic event as a fundraiser. We will investigate the possibilities.
OLD BUSINESS:
We are continuing to investigate funding for Historical Markers in town. We will begin a search for a new webmaster to replace Patrick McIntyre, who will be retiring from that position with the Wilmington Historical Society.
NEW BUSINESS:
Keeseville Historical Association asked us to support a petition to preserve their Iron Bridges, and we agreed to do so.
